"I was lost and confused for a long time. Going through the culinary academy gave me the self-confidence I needed to change my life.”

-Dana, member of Fresh Starts Culinary Academy's first graduating class.

Next Key

In its dedication to find a 100 percent solution for homelessness, Homeward Bound created The Next Key: Training, Employment, and Housing. The Next Key builds upon the success of New Beginnings Center in Novato. The adjacent facility will:

  • Expand the Fresh Starts Culinary Academy training program.
  • Offer other job training and apprenticeships.
  • Expand Homeward Bound's catering business, Fresh Starts Catering.
  • Include a demonstration kitchen and 150-seat conference room that offers culinary classes to the community and is also available for public rental.
  • Create 32 affordable housing opportunities for Homeward Bound residents participating in the expanded job-training program.
  • Include space for Homeward Bound's administrative offices, reducing our annual operating expenses.

When fully operational, the center will be financially self-sustaining.
