Homeward Bound of Marin depends on volunteers for help with everything from child care to room renovation, gardening and cooking. Here are some of our latest opportunities:

Help Improve Our Facilities
  • Adopt a room at our Family Emergency Center or Voyager Carmel Center (paint and refurbish.)
  • Clean and paint common rooms (laundry, kitchen and dining areas.)
  • Prepare the soil, plant, weed and harvest in our organic garden at New Beginnings Center.
Prepare and Serve Meals
  • Cook and serve breakfast on Saturdays or Sundays at New Beginnings Center in Novato, our 80-bed facility for adults transitioning out of homelessness. We invite volunteers 14 years and older to arrive at 6:30 a.m. and lend a hand until we finish serving breakfast at 9 a.m.
  • Prepare and serve meals at Voyager Carmel Center in San Rafael, our 36-bed facility for adults with persistent mental illness. Residents would appreciate volunteers who can commit to prepare and serve a meal one Monday night per month. Volunteers may choose to work in the center's kitchen or at home, with or without ingredients provided by Homeward Bound.
  • Provide healthy bag lunches to be eaten at school Monday through Friday by children living in our 13-room Family Emergency Center. Volunteers may make early-morning delivery of lunches to be eaten the same day or drop off lunches the day before by 6 p.m.
Child Care
  • Care for children at our Family Emergency Center and Family Resource Center while parents attend meetings and therapy groups. We need volunteers who can help Mondays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. or Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Please note: Volunteers under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers over 18 years old must be fingerprinted and undergo a background check as required by state law.
